ECOLOGICAL
RESTORATION
WHAT IS
E.R.
Well-preserved ecosystems are a priority since they have unique characteristics. However, currently a large part of the planet's ecosystems have suffered some degree of deterioration. Nevertheless, these disturbed sites are also of great importance. Depending on their degree of deterioration, they have the ability to conserve a greater or lesser number of species and ecological services.
Ecological restoration is an approach aimed at recovering natural vegetation and original ecological conditions in degraded ecosystems. It is a set of techniques and methodologies that includes reforestation.
In the Sierra de Vallejo, as occurs in much of the global tropics, agricultural activities have caused deforestation and ecological degradation of large areas. At Sierra Verde we are developing an ecological restoration program that includes:

Collection and germination of seeds from native trees
Establishment of community nurseries for the production of native trees
Reforestation projects and other restoration techniques
